Kamala Harris made history by becoming the first woman Vice President of the U.S. Not only a woman, but a woman of color -- Black and Indian. The composite, which was shared on social media included a design by Bria Goeller, which depicts Kamala Harris shadowing Ruby Bridges famous walk, immortalized in the 1964 painting The Problem We All Live With by Norman Rockwell. Ruby Bridges was an American civil rights activist. She was the first African-American child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis on November 14, 1960. Rosa Parks was an American activist in the civil rights movement best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery bus boycott. The United States Congress has called her "the first lady of civil rights" and "the mother of the freedom movement". On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Parks rejected bus driver James F. Blake's order to relinquish her seat in the "colored section" to a white passenger, after the whites-only section was filled. Now it looks possible that she could make history once again -- as the first woman President of the U.S. and the first woman of color to hold that office. Do you think Ms. Harris could possibly make history yet again?

Maya Angelou would be so proud. 'Still I Rise' is an inspiring and emotional poem that's based around Maya Angelou's experiences as a Black woman in America. It encourages readers to love themselves fully and persevere in the face of every hardship. Angelou lived through some of the worst oppression and inequality for African American people. Although slavery had been long abolished, Angelou saw its effects on society and the African-American people. 'Still I Rise' is her declaration that she, for one, would not allow the hatefulness of society to determine her own success. The poem is not only a proclamation of her own determination to rise above society but was also a call to others to live above the society in which they were brought up. Ms. Harris is certainly doing her part to live the words of this poem, in my opinion. Are you familiar with this poem?
