Donald Trump was the target of what the FBI said "appears to be an attempted assassination" at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, just nine weeks after the Republican presidential nominee survived another attempt on his life. The former president said he was safe and well, and authorities held a man in custody. U.S. Secret Service agents stationed a few holes up from where Trump was playing noticed the muzzle of an AK-style rifle sticking through the shrubbery that lines the course, roughly 400 yards away. An agent fired and the gunman dropped the rifle and fled in an SUV, leaving the firearm behind along with two backpacks, a scope used for aiming and a GoPro camera, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said. How concerned are you about the potential for political violence during the 2024 presidential campaign?

President Joe Biden wants Congress to give the US Secret Service "more help" in the wake of the second apparent attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, he told reporters Monday. "The one thing I want to make clear is Service needs more help, and I think the Congress should respond to their needs if they in fact need more Service people," Biden said at the White House, shortly before leaving for Delaware and Pennsylvania. "So that's what we're going to be talking about." Do you think the Secret Service needs more help?

The suspect was identified by US media as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58. In a post on X in June 2020, Routh indicated he had voted for Trump in 2016, but had since become disillusioned with the billionaire politician. In many recent posts, he has expressed support for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Do you think the public will eventually learn more about the suspect's motive?
