History
Columbus ignored an order by the queen and king saying that he abstain from doing any injury to island inhabitants. In 1495, he created a "tribute system" which required every person over 14 to provide him with a hawk's bell of gold every 3 months. Those who didn't comply had their hands cut off and were left to bleed to death. Columbus and his crew also victimized many indigenous people by burning them alive on a spit and at the stake, while the children were dismembered or ripped from their mothers by their feet and bashed against rocks. As soon as Columbus got to the Caribbean, he rewarded his lieutenants with indigenous women to rape. Women were not the only ones who were raped. There was child rape going on as well. And this is just a small portion of the cruelness innocent people experienced from Columbus. In the end, Columbus and his voyages were responsible for approximately 8 million deaths of indigenous people and the rape and torture of millions more. You also can't forget the millions of acres he stole from island inhabitants. Columbus is/was a stain on this world and there's absolutely no reason he deserves a day, hour, minute or second of celebration.
