A large Blue Diamond, owned by London banking heir Henry Philip Hope, is documented in the catalog of his collection in 1839. Henry Thomas Hope inherits the Blue Diamond from his Uncle. He displays it at the Crystal Palace for the Great London Exhibition, and it becomes known as "The Hope Diamond." Were you aware of the Great London Exhibition and The Crystal Palace prior to this survey?

In 1874 a 13.75 carat Blue Diamond was sold at the Geneva Auction of the Estate of Charles of Brunswick, which may have been a remnant stone from cutting down the French Blue Diamond. In 1901 Lord Francis Hope, the last of the line of Hope Family Owners of the Blue Diamond, sells it to the New York jewerly firm of Joseph Frankel's & Son's & Company via London Jeweler Adolf Weil. In 1908 Frankel sells the Blue Diamond to S Habib of Turkey, while in Paris France. In 1909 Habib sells the Blue Diamond to Parisian Jeweler Simon Rosenau via Louis Aucoc. Pierre Cartier tells the "Hope Diamond Curse Story'" to Ned and Evelyn Wlash McLean in Paris. in 1911 Cartier Bros sell the Hope Diamond to the McLeans In Washington DC May Yohe. the former Lady Hope, develops a book and a silent film hyping the curse. In 1932 Evelyn Walsh McLean temporarily pawns the Hope Diamond to raise the ransom money in the Lindhbergh Kidnapping. Evelyn Walsh McLean passes away in 1947.
