I was watching an old family movie the other day and saw some things in it we never see anymore and some of them I miss and some I don't. Some have been replaced by something better and some have not. Here are some examples.

Here are three items we used to take for granted until one day they were gone. Which of these do you wish we still have?

TV screens were square, as was every other type of read out. You could see all you needed to see right in front of you. The only thing that was wide screen was the movie screen. Having to look at a screen wider than my field of vision on modern TVs and computers is hard on the eyes.

Deciding what to watch on TV was easy because there were only 3 networks (or less) These days you have so many choices (many more networks and 100s of shows from each) it is difficult to decide what to watch.

You also knew what was on was suitable for all members of the family. These days it is a lot more difficult to avoid smut and foul language. Adult content is available 24/7

Here are three items we now have but this time we might wish a return to the time when we didn't have them. Do you with we could roll back time to when these were the norm.

Most cars didn't have much more than an AM radio and one small speaker. If you came home at night your radio (if you even had it on) would not be loud enough to wake anyone. Modern cars can have a rock concert going on while the driver parks the car for the night. When I want my Zzzs at night, I don't want them to be from Led Zeppelin.

Back in the '60s and '70s, before cars had chimes and buzzers, people regularly forgot to turn off their headlights and most left their car doors unlocked. If you came across a car like that, you could lean in and turn the lights off for them. Or we knew who owned the car and knocked on their door to tell them.

Most modern cars chirp when you lock the doors or set off an alarm if the doors are not opened using a specific process. Some alarms are sensitive to noises and vibrations. As a result, car alarms go off at all hours of the day and night. The ones that go off always seem to be owned by someone on the other side of the building where they don't hear the alarm.

Here are three more. Do you miss these times?

Without cell phones and Google you had to figure things out rather than call someone or use a search engine. I think it made for more independent and self-reliant kids (and adults).

Back in the 1960s, you had to purchase music at a music store. If your favorite band released a new album, the stores opened late at night to sell them and would sometimes have an album release party. People would wait in line all night to get their favorite artist's new album.

If your favorite band went on tour, you'd have to wait in line and purchase concert tickets in person. There was no Ticketmaster adding to the cost of the tickets so you could afford to see your favorite artists when they came to town.

Here are the final three for today. Which of these do you miss.

In the '60s, our parents did not have to buy school supplies when we were in school since the school provided everything.

During the daytime, no one locked their door. As a child in the '60s, if mom wasn't home, we could walk in, make a sandwich, do our homework, walk the dog, play with friends in the street and wait for supper. Mom was probably just next door gossiping with a neighbor.

Any stranger in the street would be instantly noticed because everyone knew everyone. If anything out of the ordinary happened on the street the curtains in one of the houses would open slightly for our nosy neighbor to get a better look. Nobody ever thought of stealing or doing anything bad.
