Country singer and The Voice staple Blake Shelton was honored with the cover and title of People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive, last week, and within minutes Twitter and social media responded with a collective "What???" The term "sexy" in itself can be many things to many people -- looks, brains, charm, personality, talent, and no one is saying that Shelton may not possess all the qualities, but as several pointed out, "Did everybody die?", and even more fitting "Did they run out of white people?" People Magazine has been called out before on their apparent lack of diversity on their cover. This year alone, with really sexy men like The Dark Tower and Molly's Game star Idris Elba (shown, and you are welcome ladies and some men), Game Of Throne's Jason Momoa, and Criminal Minds' Shemar Moore, the choice of Shelton comes across as odd. Since People Magazine has been honoring the sexiest man alive since 1985, there has only been man of color on the cover -- Denzel Washington in 1996, and their Most beautiful people cover has only featured Halle Berry, Lupita Nyong'o, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez (as Latino) since the 1990 debut of this title. Does this lack of diversity bother you?
