Lily Tomlin was famous for her character of Ernestine, the nosy, condescending telephone operator who generally treated customers with little sympathy. Ernestine often snorted when she let loose a barbed response or heard something salacious; she also wore her hair in a 1940s hairstyle with a hair net, although the character was contemporary to the late 60s and early 70s. Did you like Ernestine?

Lily Tomlin is also known for another character, Edith Ann, which she created after Laugh-In ended. Edith Ann was a precocious five-year old girl who sat in an oversized rocking chair with her doll and waxed philosophical on everyday life, either about life as a kid or things for which she felt she had the answers—even though she was too young to fully understand. She usually ended her monologues with "and that's the truth," punctuated with a noisy "raspberry." Did you like Edith Ann?
