Mona Lisa - Leonardo da Vinci painted this somewhere between 1503-1506. The image (thought to be noblewoman Lisa del Giocondo) and her enigmatic expression have been used to advertise all manner of products from hairstyling, food and drink, as well as this one for Colgate. Speaking of, which toothpaste brand do you use?

American Gothic - Grant Wood did this 1930 painting. The Dibble House in the background is a real place in Eldon Iowa. While one may not consider a magazine cover advertising, I'd argue it is, making the reader want to pick up a copy. I've seen this used for fast food places, sunglasses, electronics. In any case, does this painting bring to mind the opening of the 60's show Green Acres to you?

The Scream - Norwegian artist Edvard Munch painted this in 1893. While Munch says he was inspired by a "blood red sky" while out on a walk, it's typically felt to represent the anxiety of human condition. Perhaps odd M&M's used it for an ad, but most I've seen play on this idea, the surreal creepiness with humor. What type M&M's do you like?

The Last Supper - another by Leonardo da Vinci, dated to 1495–1498, it's a mural in the Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan. Perhaps the interplay between the figures, the fact they are at supper, or merely a well known painting makes for good advertising fodder, such as this one for the TV series Lost. The show Sopranos also did this, as well as a Coke vs. Pepsi ad and others. What's your take on religious themed art being used for advertising?

It's fine in most cases, not like the Lost ad is poking fun at anything, just mimicking an idea.

Tend to find it a bit in bad taste when there are plenty of other works to chose from.
