Fire pits around here seem to be lit only in cooler weather and only when the owners are entertaining. Front porches, on the other hand, are comfortable nearly year-round; they're a great place for visiting, reading, or daydreaming in all but the hottest or coldest weather. Granted, the fire pit's location means it is more private.
