International Beaver Day recognizes the important role that beavers play in the Canadian ecosystems. Beaver ponds provide habitat for wildlife, improve water quality and can help to reduce the impacts of climate change. Once near extinction, the beaver is now one of Canada's most triumphant conservation success stories due to the introduction of laws to conserve wildlife and the establishment of Canada's first protected areas, such as Algonquin Provincial Park, the birthplace of Roots. Which beaver facts did you know?

The work of beavers makes them a keystone species in maintaining habitats that are relied on by many others. As well as wetland, beavers create standing dead wood (by drowning some trees) which is inhabited by insects, and in turn attracts bird life.

Roots plus Beavers is as Canadian as they come -- Roots was created and established in Canada before branching out, and the beaver is our official national animal (along with the horse) and Roots clothing features a beaver as their emblem. The beaver may not be considered ferocious like some countries' symbols, but it is capable of incredible feats of engineering, it is industrious, and it gets the job done. Have you ever heard of any of these other beaver applications?
