Unlike traditional folk tales, which are generally associated with rural preliterate societies or with stories told by the very old to the very young, urban legends are shared and believed by people of all ages, classes, professions, and education levels. Every state has their own tall tales. The Travel Channel is my source for this series.
1. The Sheridan Inn in Sheridan, Wyoming is watched over by a woman who lived and worked at for almost her entire adult life. When she died, her ashes were scattered in the building's walls, and she takes her job as guardian very seriously. Would you visit this historic hotel in the hopes of catching a glimpse of this dedicated employee?

2. The spirits of two West Virginia University Students who were murdered and found decapitated in the 1970s are said to be searching the woods for their missing heads near where their bodies were discovered. Have you ever heard of this sad and gruesome urban legend?

3. A tragic accident involving a troop of boy scouts means a road in Stevens Point, Wisconsin is rife with ghost stories. Known locally as Boy Scout Lane, visitors to the area report hearing footsteps in the woods around them and seeing children's handprints on their vehicles. Does this sound like a street you want to drive down, alone, at night?

4. The mining town of Monte Cristo, Washington, was doomed from the start due to the rough winters in the Cascades. There are still whispers of the old mining town, and the ghosts of the townspeople who tried to make it work are still walking the abandoned streets. Do you think that it's possible that some poor souls are still wandering around in this abandoned town?
